There are plenty of Christmas Lights and whole neighborhoods lit up for Christmas and a New Year. The one we can recommend is Candy Cane Lane (located in Rutland neighborhood), which unites Collision Road, Gramiak Road and Mary Court. The homes will stay decorated and lit up into New Year, month of January 2020. Over the years, the block has collected non-perishable food items from those who are checking out the festive neighborhood, and last year, almost 10,000 pounds of food was collected and donated to the Kelowna Women's Shelter, Freedom's Door recovery house and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club. Candy Lane is portraying the community spirit, the one we remember from "Christmas with Kranks". And you never know, who you will bump into while visiting Candy Lane! Christmas miracles happen more often than we think! Another great activity for a whole family - is to build a snowman.
It actually takes time and some creativity, but this would be a time well-spent. Canada has great outdoors - so much to do: skiing, snowshoeing, tubing, ice-skating, snowboarding, ice-fishing, ice-hockey and simply building a snow fort! Any of the activities provide happiness boost that lasts days. Polar Bear Plunge is a popular way to celebrate a New Year across the globe. Netherlands, United States of America, United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Korea, Antarctica participate in Polar Bear Swim or Plunge. In Canada, "Polar Bear Swims", "plunges" or "dips" are a New Year's Day tradition in numerous communities across the country. In Vancouver, BC's annual Polar Bear Swim Club has been active since 1920 and typically has 1,000 to 2,000 registered participants, with a record 2,128 plunging into English Bay in 2000. Registration is not enforced and the actual number of swimmers may be significantly higher. Estimates of the number of observers are typically up to 10,000. Suburban White Rock, BC's was founded in 1958, and other suburbs including North Vancouver, Surrey, Delta and Langley also hold swims. Kelowna also holds annual polar bear swim and this year it was as a fundraiser for Adaptive Adventures. Today, January 1, 2020 at 2 PM people of all ages took off their own winter jackets and ran towards Okanagan Lake for a plunge. The air was filled with excitement and expectation of a miracle. To be fair, it was about 4 C and no snow on the sand or ice in the water. It was a great year to start dipping! Lifeguards were monitoring the event and everything went smooth for every participant.
